Ed teaches a variety of Music Appreciation courses as part of the CLASS Department at NMT. 
 
In college, Ed majored in Jazz Percussion and World Music, and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, a Master of Fine Arts in Music from Cal Arts in Santa Clarita, CA, and a Bachelors of Music from the Berklee School of Music in Boston, MA. 
 
As a student at Cal Arts, Ed played drum set in workshop concerts with visiting artists including John Cage, John Addams, Branford Marsalis, Leroy Jenkins, Dewey Redman, Henry Threadgil, Julius Hemphill, and Andrew Hill. In Seattle, while working towards his doctoral degree, Ed performed and recorded with David Byrne, Wayne Horvitz, Eyvind Kang, Tim Young, Lori Goldston, Stuart Dempster, William O Smith, and Francois Houle. 
 
In 2000 Ed was a United States Peace Corp Volunteer in the People's Republic of Bangladesh, and continued his music practice and study at the Allaudin Khan School of Music in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh. In 2003, Ed was awarded a travel grant to study and record North Indian percussion compositions in New Delhi, India.
 
In 2010 Ed began learning the American Indian Flute with inspration and informal studies thru phone conversations with Kevin Locke (Tokeya Inajin). Ed currently continues his study online thru the Horizons Flute School under the direction of Jonny Lipford. Ed has performed on his flutes as part of the 2018 Alamo Wellness Days events, the 2023 and 2024 Native American Heritage Day events at New Mexico Tech, and various events on the Tech Campus.
